I know it’s be a little bit since I last posted. First of all, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! We have a few things to cover so I’m going to get right into it.
Two agents passed on representing Mystic Waters. Which, I mean, it hurt but in the grand scheme of things, they aren’t the final say on my book getting published. There are many more agents who I haven’t yet queried. Also, should absolutely no one want to work with me, I’ll just self publish. I’m at a good enough place in life where I can afford to do it well enough. I’m going to show you one of the rejections because, quite frankly, it was one of those emails that didn’t discourage.
Thank you for submitting your work to XXX for review. Unfortunately we’re going to pass on Mystic Waters at this time. The query and sample didn’t grab me enough to want to ask for more but as this is a ridiculously subjective industry I do encourage you to keep querying. I wish you all the best with your literary endeavors.
I really liked his rejection letter. And this is the way I want you all to see it, should you decide to write and then query. What doesn’t catch one agent’s attention might do it for the next. The best thing about being an author right now is you have options. The ball is in your court, always.
Last night, I reached 19,000 words. This morning, it bumped up to almost 20,000. Writing the sequel is definitely less rushed and I also jump around while writing. I have major scenes written (including one in my head that I’m itching to write but I have a responsibility to fill you all in first) and a pretty good foundation. I wrote the first book chronologically at first and then wrote the ending and filled in the gaps. In writing Chasing the Tide, I write whatever comes to me and when I’m done, I fill in and blend. I feel like I’m letting my characters take control this time around and it feels nice. Also, I’ve introduced two new male characters to balance out the estrogen levels. 🙂
I’m a big Kellie Pickler fan and when I found out she was coming to Afghanistan to perform, I almost lost my shit. When she came to sing, I was right in the front. And just as she was getting ready to introduce her next song, I yelled out the title (Little Bit Gypsy) and that it was my favorite. She proceeded to invite me on stage and the rest is history. I read Divergent by Veronica Roth last night. It was utterly amazing. 5 stars. Please go read it. Like now. Right now. It will rock your world.
I know this post seems a bit spazzy but I’m trying to fit in everything I’d like to tell you guys! We’re playing catch up! I have three queries out and am keeping my fingers crossed! Also, I only ended up hearing from 2 out of 4 of my beta readers. I’d say what’s up with that but my mind is too overworked to really worry about it. If anyone would like to beta read Mystic Waters, please let me know. And please actually read it and get back to me. Also, if you’d like to hear from me more frequently, feel free to follow me on Twitter or like me on Facebook (links are on the ‘About the Author’ page)! The internet is going in and out here so I really had to rush this post!
Currently playing Rihanna’s What Now.
