Who here has read a book and though to themselves, What the hell? Where do they get these ideas from?!
The first book that caused that reaction, for me, was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Amazing book and will always be a favorite of mine. I think that J.K. Rowling is a pioneer in the writing world, making young adult fantasy mainstream. While I’m sure there are others who’ve done the same, she will always be the name that comes to mind. That’s got to mean something.
OK, here comes the part we’ve all been waiting for: The moment where I tell you just where we get our ideas.
Drum roll, please.
We get our ideas from literally, thin air. Whether it be while we’re walking the dog, listening to a song, or shopping. It slams into us, stealing our breath. From there, we’re haunted until we finally get the words down. As a writer, I can tell you that there isn’t a day when I don’t write. 100 words to 1,000…sometimes even 10,000 words a day. When you have a great story, it takes over your life. It wakes you up in the middle of the night, causing you to type away, knowing you need to be up for work in a few hours. Writing is fun, writing is amazing. But writing is work. So, when you find yourself with an amazing idea, run with it. Even if it sounds absolutely ridiculous, get it on paper. You may end up being the next J.K. Rowling. 😉

P.S. Who noticed the blog makeover? Nice, right. Danke! (German for ‘Thanks’)
